Some Men Just Want to Watch the PAX Burn

16 PAX posted this morning at our sandy AO, Alexandria Oaks Park, for a game of cards with YHC. Upon arrival I found Jumanji in the fetal position complaining about last night, but thankful for F3 because it gave him an excuse to go home. YHC decided to try some new things today, much to the joy (misery?) of the PAX. So without further ado, here we go:

Mosey to our beautiful big field.

COP:

SSH x 20 IC

Imperial Walkers x 20 IC

Merkins x 10 IC

LBC x 20 IC

The Thang:

Deck of Death (thanks to Inspector Gadget for introducing me to this one)

Hearts = Merkins

Diamonds = Diamond Merkins

Spades = Squats

Clubs = Monkey Humpers

Joker = Johnny Cash

104 reps of each exercise all together. I wanted to use the Joker card for something special. I immediate thought of the Dark Knight and Alfred talking about the Joker saying, “Some men just like to watch the world burn.” So I decided to use the Joker card for Johnny Cash so the PAX could burn burn burn.

About halfway through the deck Jumanji, OTC, and Feud thought they could use some more punishment so they began to run around the circle between each exercise.

Dan Taylor

1 Squat: 4 lunges

2 Squats: 8 lunges

3 Squats: 12 lunges

4 Squats: 16 lunges

5 Squats: 20 lunges

Sprint Back: Repeat

YHC definitely could not feel his legs after this. This exercise is aptly named.

Wave of Merkin up to 5 Merkins.

Mary:

Popcorn Exercises

In an effort to get more PAX used to leading the workouts a few of us decided it would be good to have the Mary be a little bit different. I chose the first person and he did an exercise of his choice. He then picked the next person, and we repeated until 0800.

COT:

-We had one FNG today after passing around some good nicknames (Slinky, Deacon) he reluctantly ended up with the nickname Bieber thanks to his hair.

-YHC tried to encourage everyone to consider Qing a workout, and to make it to weekday workouts even if that meant starting a new AO near their house. Jacksonville has the potential to be a region not just one AO. We have plenty of men in this area that could use F3.

-YHC also asked prayer for his girlfriend as she is in her final semester of nursing school and has a three-year-old girl. I know that God can provide the strength for her to juggle school, Autumn, and least of all me.

-YHC offered prayer. I am ever thankful for F3 and God providing us the strength and will to do what we do, and for making us better men.

Moleskin:

-Jumanji offered up the idea of playing duck, duck, goose during a deck of death. Essentially having one person run around the circle until the exercise is called, then when the exercise is called you tap the next person to run. YHC thinks it is a great idea to enhance an already difficult set of exercises.

-The full weight of Iam3rd really hit me today. I think a lot of times I (and I think if we are honest all of us) am very self-centered in most actions that I take. Even in things that it may appear that I am doing for other people. It shouldn’t be that way though. We were all created to serve. Mark 10:45 says, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” If the very Son of God, who gave his life for us, came to serve how much more so should we serve other people? Serving other people could be as easy as saying hello to someone when it looks like they are down, or opening the door for someone at the store. We do not have to move mountains to help other people. Just getting out there and letting our light shine to this world can make huge changes. I know this seems like, and probably is, just a small part of this philosophy, but these things came to me heavy when I was leaving today. I will leave you with this quote from St. Francis of Assisi, “Preach the Gospel at all times, and when necessary use words.” Never forget: 1st: God/Family, 2nd: Community, 3rd: Me. I AM 3RD.

  1. Great workout and great comments in the Moleskin Big Bird. I feel I am fulfilling God’s purpose for me, so much more when I am doing for others. Seeing examples of other men doing that in F3 has spurred me to do more of it myself. AYE!
