Spartan Tough

YHC and many of the PAX have put some $$ down for some upcoming obstacle course races, so we might as well prep for them.  Contrary to the misguided accusations that YHC was planning Kessel w/os to increase attendance, the goal is always the same… plan something that keeps us moving and pushes our cardio past the autopilot we often find ourselves cruising through life in.

YHC shamelessly adapted an official Spartan Training workout focused on the simple format of run, exercise, run harder, exercise, run hardest, exercise… repeat until time runs out.

So 7 PAX( including a FNG that eerily resembles BigBird only 3 years younger, 3 in taller and 3 years weaker; but… he could run for sure) stepped forward and pushed well passed our comfort zone.

Disclaimer and Go

The Thang:

  • Loop 1 – Fountain to Prudential to Main St back to Fountain (.75 mi)
    • First lap served as the Warm Up with high knees, butt kickers and introductions with the FNG
  • Exercises –  Grab a bench – 15 Derkins, 15 Squats, 15 Flutter kicks counting right leg
  • Loop 2 – Fountain to top of Main St Bridge and back (.5 mi)
  • Exercises –  Grab a bench – 15 Derkins, 15 Squats, 15 Flutter kicks counting right leg
  • Loop 3 – Fountain to top of Acosta Bridge and back (1 mi)
  • Exercises –  Grab a bench – 15 Derkins, 15 Squats, 15 Flutter kicks counting right leg

The PAX did as many rounds as they could in 45 min.  The leaders fished right at two full rounds and all hard charged to complete at least one full round and then some.  Loop 3, intentionally left last, was brutal and crushing as it was the longest and steepest climb but our men didn’t falter (well the FNG almost fell over half way up) and pushed hard all the way through.  Had some new faces rollout this AM, so whether its YHC’s sneaky scheme to increase attendance or an innocent byproduct of planning bad-a workouts, it was great having more guys out.
