A Leader…On The Fly

  • The PAX: Outhouse, Pom Pom, Gravy, Low Maintenance, Mr. Yuk,

Five cheerful faces greeted YHC in the pre-dawn, 45 degree gloom. Though eager to get moving (and thus warm), the Pax listen to YHC blather on about leadership and stuff (blah, blah, blah). He explained that on our 4 mile Tuesday jaunt, each man must be a leader… on the fly. Each man will choose 2 exercises. At his choice, he will stop the group by stating his F3 name, and that he was a leader on the fly. He would then lead the Pax on a properly executed, cadence call exercise. There was a small matter of a 10 burpee penalty for failing to complete 2 exercises or for failing in the cadence call process. Low Maintenance was given special grace, as he has yet to VQ.

Off we went…

All arrived back safely, and in mostly one piece…

Success is a series of small things done very well. In the same way, being a leader is taking the opportunity to have little leadership successes every single day. This is leadership on the fly… one good decision or action, leading to the next. In so doing we change the lives of others and we transform ourselves into the men we desire to be…

Peace Out
