Where Have the Defenses Gone?

  • QIC: Feud
  • The PAX: Twister, Mr. Hyde, Flounder (R), Culpepper (R), 50-cent, Fix-It, Eileen (R), Farah & Farah (Rx2), Updraft (R), Doink (FNG - Brian Valentin), FNG-Chris Bender (early dismissal may play into future name), Feud

Lucky 13 HIM of Jacksonville muddled through the early, soggy gloom and posted for Feud’s pre-Super Bowl party beatdown. The Pax were greeted with bright lights at the park and as well as a large mulch truck that was blocking YHC car from exiting. Really hoping they would be gone by the time we were done.  Apparently the Parks and Recreation Department of St. John’s County just completed a little project at the park and today was the day to re-mulch the playground area.  More what we found in the playground later.

FNGs welcomed. Disclaimer provided. The mulch began to flow, loudly, and thus we began…

COP

  • SSH x20 IC
  • Burpees x10 OYO

In addition to this being Super Bowl weekend, the PAX were well aware that today was Groundhog Day. This reminded YHC of the movie Groundhog Day. In the movie Bill Murray’s character relives Groundhog Day over and over. Hence…

The Thang

Mosey to the football field. To prepare for this pseudo-national holiday, we reminisced on this year’s NFL playoffs. Most of us were able to watch these games without becoming overly excited seeing as our beloved Jaguars were nowhere in site for this season’s playoffs (which for YHC, meant I could focus on my other NFL team- America’s Team: the Dallas Cowboys). Upon learning how this morning’s beatdown would proceed (reps were determined by the final scores of the games), the PAX wished that there were more defensive contests this year.

Wild Card Weekend

Regular run from goal line to the 50-yd line, perform 1st exercise, run back to goal line for 2nd exercise. Fast-holes planking for the six as we began each run together.

  • 24 Imperial Walkers (Cowboys) – 22 Smurf Jacks (Seahawks)
  • 21 Merkins (Colts) – 7 Burpees (Texans)
  • 23 Flutter Kicks (Chargers) – 17 Squats (Ravens)
  • 16 Werkins (Eagles)- 15 Diamond Merkins (Bears)

Divisional Weekend

As teams progress through the playoffs, things games get harder… Same distance with varying modes of travel; however, only two types of exercises. Once again, fast-holes planking for the six and we began each trip together.

Merkins at the 50-yd line and LBCs at the goal line

  • Cowboys 22 – Rams 30 (backwards run)
  • Colts 13 – Chiefs 31 (karaoke)
  • Chargers 28 – Patriots 41 (lunges)
  • Eagles 14 – Saints 20 (varied*)

* side lunges to the 50 (switching sides at the 25-yd line), on the way back, my assistant coach called a great audible- bear crawl back for 20-yds, crab walk for 20-yds, and inch worm the final 10-yds.  This was a crowd pleaser.

Mosey to the far hill for the next round of playoff games.

Conference Championships

Backwards run up the hill to the top to perform first exercise, then run down to the bottom of the hill for the second.

  • 26 Squats (Rams) – 23 Shoulder Taps (Saints)
  • 37 Jump Squats (Patriots) – 31 Mountain Climbers (Chiefs)

Punt-Pass-Kick

Mosey back to the field as the grounds crew prepared the goal post.  Beginning at the far end zone, one member of the PAX (Twister, Mr Hyde) the ball, all sprint to spot ball rests and performs 5 merkins, then another member of the PAX (F&F, 50-cent) throws the ball down field, all sprint to spot ball lands and performs 5 squats, then another member of the PAX (Feud, Doink) attempts field goal from that spot. Miss = 5 burpees. Make = easy mosey back to the far end zone.  We had time for two rounds resulting in no FGs.

COT

YHC reminded all that the mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.  This week’s Q-Source topic was on leadership development.  One way we help develop leaders in F3 is through Q’ing a workout.  YHC encouraged those who have been coming and not Q’ed yet, to study the lingo and not be afraid of stepping up to Q.  There will be a learning curve, and there will be mistakes, but you must take the opportunity to Q to get better at it, and we, the members of the PAX, will help guide you through it.
