In response to the re-opening of parks and beaches of Jacksonville, our fearless and resilient Nan’tan made a proclamation to re-open the AOs with the continuation of the precautions (social distancing, no partner exercises, no sharing of coupons, and breaking into groups if more than 10 in the Pax) that lead us to the “flattening of the curve” in NE Florida. So with great pride and excitement, 12 HIM of F3 Jacksonville re-planted the flag at Boondocks and away we went. Following a cage match in the parking lot, Twister graciously relinquished the Q to YHC. He may have wished he hadn’t…
- SSH x20 IC
- Burpees x5 OYO
- LBAC forward/backwards/raise the roof/Moroccan nightclub x10 IC
- Burpees x5 OYO
- Squats x10 IC
- Burpees x5 OYO
- Merkins x10 IC
- Burpees 5 OYO
- BBS x20 OYO
- Burpees x5 OY
It was appropriate that our fearless Nan’tan, Heisenberg, proclaimed the re-opening of the F3 Jacksonville AOs starting on this date. It was this date 5 years ago that the HIM of South Carolina (I believe it was Columbia), traveled by clown car to Jacksonville and planted the F3 flag at Alexandria Oaks Park in San Marco. YHC thought it would be nice to give men of Boondocks a taste of what that first beatdown was like. YHC knew we have accelerated since that day, so there were a few Tim “the Tool Man” Taylor “enhancements” made during this 5th Anniversary celebration. YHC also informed the pax that he was introduced to 2 exercises that he learned he hated: bear crawls and burpees….
F3 Jacksonville trivia question #1: Why was Alexandria Oaks Park selected as the AO for the launch site for F3 Jacksonville?
At the first beatdown, we did the Arc Loader. At the 5th Year Anniversary, we did Killer B’s:
- Cones set up ~ 35 yards apart
- Bear crawl from one set of cones to the other
- Broad jump back
- Burpees x3 after every 5 broad jumps
- Repeat 5 times
Answer to F3 Jacksonville trivia question #1: it was close to Maple Street Biscuit Company. Arguably the best coffeeteria location in F3 Nation.
F3 Jacksonville trivia question #2: Who Q’d the inaugural F3 Jacksonville beatdown?
At the first beatdown, we did “7’s”. Because of our acceleration, we now do “11’s”, and since Boondocks has berms, why not use them as well.
- Run to top of the berm, 10 jump squats, return to baseline, 1 werkin
- Back to the top of the berm, 9 jump squats, return to baseline, 2 werkins…
- Continue until down to 1 jump squat and 10 werkins
Answer to F3 Jacksonville trivia question #2: Chaser and Doc from South Carolina.
F3 Jacksonville trivia question #3: Who was the first HIM from Jacksonville to Q an F3 Jacksonville beatdown? Bonus: Which AO did he Q?
At the first beatdown we did two, 5-minute AMRAPs circuits. Ok, so this one I did leave as is:
- Circuit 1:
- 1st cone: merkins x10
- 2nd cone: burpees x5
- 3rd cone: merkins x10
- 4th cone: burpees
- Circuit 2:
- 1st cone: BBS x10
- 2nd cone: V-ups x5
- 3rd cone: BBS x10
- 4th cone: V-ups x5
Answer to F3 Jacksonville Trivia question #3: Jumanji. This HIM was the first to step up and Q a beatdown. It was at Southside park on Wednesday and would eventually become Anthill (and moved to Tuesday). He had 2 others, Band Camp and Big Bird join him. Jumanji also Q’d the first Jacksonville led Saturday beatdown later that same week.
F3 Jacksonville trivia question #4: What is the name of the original AO, and where is it currently located?
We didn’t do these (that I recall) at the original beatdown, but we had 5 minutes remaining so..
- Regular suicide #1
- Once completed, YHC asked for the most famous quote from the movie Miracle and to his delight, Twister responded correctly: “AGAIN!” (so it wasn’t the most famous quote from the movie or in history of the Olympics, but it fit)
- Regular suicide #2
Answer to F3 Jacksonville trivia question #4: ANCHOR! Originally at Alexandria Oaks Park, the men of F3 Jacksonville have since moved this AO to Memorial Park for better exposure in hopes of EH’ing more men of Jacksonville to join us.
First, I want to send T-claps to Chaser, Doc, Robber, Okra, Pothole, FOG, Totanka (from central Florida), and Bagcheck (a Jax local) for coming and planting the flag and getting Jacksonville on the F3 Nation map. Since that day in April of 2015, we have expanded to include 20 AOs scattered throughout the Jacksonville area and beatdowns 6 days of the week.
Next, YHC shared with the Boondocks crew what F3 has done for him. At the first few workouts, every time we were on our backs for some core exercises, YHC would look at the sky and think “what the hell am I doing out here? I don’t belong. I can’t hang with these guys?” Thankfully, YHC stuck with it, and learned that these men won’t let me fail, and will be there when I need them to push me (I will never forget you OTC). I can honestly say that because of F3, I am have accelerated in areas of my life outside of fitness. I feel I am a better father, a better husband, and better leader at work and at my church. There is still a lot of work to do for me personally, but knowing I have a group of brothers who won’t let me fail is reassuring.
We finished out with prayer and pledge.
Happy 5th Anniversary F3 Jacksonville!
