BADLANDS “Choose to Include” “World Autism Month”

10 men joined QIC on a warm Thursday, April 1st, expecting possible rain, but posted anyway. The rain would hold off, but not the Beatdown! Being as it’s “Autism Awareness Month,” it’s the Q’s responsibility to RAISE THE AWARENESS!

Autism by the Numbers
• Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
o A developmental disability than can cause significant social, communication, and behavioral challenges.
o People with ASD may communicate, interact, behave, and learn in ways that are different from most other people.
• 70 million people worldwide have.
• Affects 1 in 54 children.
• Affects 1 in 34 boys. (More than 4 times more than girls)
• Affects 1 in 144 girls.
• More children will be diagnosed with Autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined.
• New case of Autism is diagnosed nearly every 20 minutes.
• Drowning is the leading cause of death of individuals with Autism.
• 65% of parents reported that their children had been victimized by peers in some way in the past year.
• 12% indicated their child had never been invited to a birthday party.
• 6% were almost always picked last for teams
• 3% at alone at lunch EVERY day.
• According to CDC, approximately 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 4 girls suffer from sexual abuse before the age of 18.
• Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the US.
