7 HIM of Fleming Island, including 1 FNG and 1 DR from nearby F3 Palatka, posted in the gloom of Asgard in order to pay tribute to the World Series Champions, Atlanta Braves.  As a product of the 80’s TV generation, YHC has been a long time TBS-Braves fan, he still remembers the lean years (where the best thing that happened to the Braves was winning 63 games just so they wouldn’t lose 100 games).  And while they have won 1 WS during his lifetime, all folks want to talk about is the 14 division titles and only coming away with 1 WS (should have been at least 3).  But that is the past.  This is the present, and due to inclement weather last week, YHC did not have the opportunity to properly commemorate this momentous occasion.

The Thang

The Ozzie Albies:

America can thank the Braves second baseman.  Because of his steal of second base in the first inning of Game 1 of the WS, Taco Bell handed out free Doritos Locos Taco, so…

With PAX lined up at first base and 1 pax on pitcher’s mound:

  • Pitcher performs 3 squats and immediately simulates pitch to “ghost batter” at Home Plate or attempts pick-off at first base
  • After the 3 squats, pax decide either to attempt to “steal” 2nd base or return to 1st
  • If any pax runs when pitcher simulates pick-off at first base, all pax must do 3 burpees
  • After three plays, pax rotate

HIIT Baseball Diamond:

YHC read a mind-blowing fact about the Braves WS win that is related to Hammerin’ Hank Aaron.  The Braves paid tribute to the late Home Run king by having his number 44 in center field this year.  Apparently, the Braves won 44 games prior to the All-Star Game; they won 44 games after the All-Star Game.  They won the World Series on the 44th week of the year.

  • 11 burpees at home -> sprint to 1st Base-> sumo squats x 10, diamond merkins x 10 -> jog back to home
  • Rinse and repeat but sprint to 2nd base, then 3rd
  • Last sprint is all away around diamond to home. End with exercises x 5 reps.

World Series 2021:

YHC gave the pax a recap of this year’s WS game by game.  Pax lined up at the home team “dugout” and performed 1st exercise, then ran to away team “dugout” and performed 2nd exercise. Rep count based on scores + 10:

  • Game 1: Atlanta 16 Merkins, Houston 12 Monkey Humpers
    • Jorge Soler leads off WS with HR
    • Ozzie Albies stolen base results in free tacos for all
    • Charlie Morton lost for the rest of the series
  • Game 2: Atlanta 12 LBCs, Houston 17 Hello Dollies
    • Eh!
  • Game 3: Houston 10 Diamond Merkins, Atlanta 12 Gorilla Humpers
    • Travis d’Arnaud hits his second HR in consecutive games by same player- first time since another former Brave, Ryan Klesko did it in 1995
  • Game 4: Houston 12 Homer-to-Marge, Atlanta 13 Box Cutters
    • Back-to-back HR by Dansby Swanson and Soler in the 7th inning to tie and take lead
  • Game 5: Houston 19 Werkins, Atlanta 14 Bobby Hurley’s
    • Adam Duvall’s first inning grand slam is wasted as Astros come from behind for the win
  • Game 6: Atlanta 17 American Hammers, Houston 10 Jump Squats
    • Max Fried and the bullpen shut down the “potent” Astro batters
    • Swanson and Soler go back-to-back again with Soler’s blast landing on the moon

Whiffle Ball Game:

Using the budget of the Miami Marlins, YHC went looking for a whiffle ball/bat set, but only found the Dollar Tree version.  Of course, it may have helped if he did his shopping before the Friday night…

  • Pax split into two teams (3 vs 4)
  • Batters- keep batting until run through line-up once, or 3 outs; one batter for team of 3 was able to bat twice
  • Each Out- batting team: 3 burpees, defense: 5 merkins
  • Each Hit- defense: 3 burpees, batting team: 5 merkins

Two innings played and ended in a 1-1 tie.

COT/BOM

YHC thanked the pax for indulging in his desire to properly celebrate his team’s WS victory, as well as for prayers last month as he and his M were presenting a marriage workshop for his church.  He was able to speak to one of the participants yesterday, and this particular person was under the impression that YHC had a “perfect” marriage.  YHC reminded this participant as well as the pax, because of Adam’s fall, we are all broken people.  And if two broken people get married, then the marriage will also have issues.  The fact of the matter is that we all have something that has us struggling or fighting to be better.  We each have our own cross to bear.  Just because the outside world may not see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

What we need to do is take steps to carry that cross and strive to get better.  YHC has mentioned it before, but one of his goals for working with marriage ministry is to promote that marriage programs or workshops are not limited to “troubled” marriages, but are for all marriages- remember, we are all broken.  Participating in these on a regular (annual) basis will keep you sharp an on guard to protect your marriage.  Continuing education is meant to keep professionals sharp or teach recent developments in their field.  The same can be said for marriage programs.
