6 HIM of Fleming Island, including 1 FNG, braved the breezy weather to post in the gloom at Asgard. Those posting were aware of a recent milestone reached as YHC finally became respectable earlier this month; what they did not know was that this month also brought along his wedding anniversary. He thought he would let the pax know, in an interesting way while explaining the three “rings” of marriage…

The Thang
- The Engagement Ring- putting that ring on her finger signaling your commitment to get married. What a wonderful moment. You’re heart can’t help but sing. But those tunes you were thinking about probably didn’t include these:
- Roxanne- pax performs chops and perform a burpee each time they hear “Roaxanne”
- In the Plank Tonight- easy one, just plank to the duration of Phil Collins “In the Air Tonight”
- Never Surrender- not really a great song to do exercises to, but it Cory Hart’s tune was played as the pax performed 22 No surrenders
- Green Sally Up- you know the drill; air chair and squats to the song Flower
- The Wedding Ring– putting this ring on the finger seals the deal and your commitment for life with your partner. Marriage is between 3 people: you, your M and God. Sooo.. Partner up and same concept as Dora 1-2-3, but to these exercises:
- Werkins x100
- E2K x 200
- Dips x300
- Ring of Fire- aka the Suffering, which an old Filipino uncle once told me is the third ring of marriage
- Pax at each cone and performs 1-minute AMRAP of prescribed exercise listed at that cone. Traverse in method called out by Q (bear crawls, lunges, crab walk, side lunge right, side lunge left)
- Merkins
- SSH
- Mt Climbers
- Squats
- Flutter kicks
- Burpees
- Pax at each cone and performs 1-minute AMRAP of prescribed exercise listed at that cone. Traverse in method called out by Q (bear crawls, lunges, crab walk, side lunge right, side lunge left)
- Mosey to US-17 and back
- 2-minute park pick-up: leave the park better than we found it
- Pax have 2 minutes to collect trash on the field
- 60 burpees – # trash items thrown away
BOM/COT
One of the things YHC learned as he was presenting a workshop on marriage last month was what is known as the Cycle of Relationships. At the beginning of the cycle is the “illusion” phase where you and your loved one have butterflies when you see each other, and everything is just lovely and great. This lasts on average 18-24 months.
This is followed by the “disillusion” phase that is marked by the question, “who are you?” This is believing the person you are with now is not the same person you married (but they really are, you are just now discovering them now that the rosy colored glasses are gone).
After this is “confusion” where you ask yourself, “did I marry the right person?” This leads to a “conclusion” in which one of three things can happen:
- the relationship/marriage can end in divorce
- the couple can continue living together as roommates (which I guess is better than divorce), or
- the couple stay together and work things out.
All marriages go through this cycle of relationships; some not as intense as others, but they go through the phases. YHC has found investing in his marriage has helped keep his marriage staying on track. Just like the valuable lesion he learned out here in the gloom: if you aren’t going up the mountain, you are sliding down it. Make sure to invest in your marriage.
