14 Pax showed up for a warm Memorial Day weekend beatdown, Cindys in hand.
I was inspired by the talk of the log race at the recent GrowRuck, and by Dredd’s subsequent blog post about the Power of Competition. I’ve been wanting to devise a competitive beatdown, and this seemed like the push I needed to make it happen. It was a good first swing – I think I can learn from the experience of leading it and make it better and more competitive next time.
Warm-a-Rama – SSH, Hillbillys, Michael Phelps, LBAC F&B, WonderBra – all in Cadence. Secure your blocks, mosey to the field.
The Thang
Pax arrived on the field to find 10 stations, set up along the 50 yard line. Pax were instructed to pair up with another pax of comparable fitness level, and stand on opposite sides of the 50. The line of pax on one side of the 50 was a team, pitted against the line on the other side. Each pax had to complete all 10 stations. You could not enter a station until the pax before you had completed the exercise. First team finished was the winner.

TBH, it got a little log-jammed, and the winners were unclear. It’s OK, because Pax were smoked.
We finished up with about 15 minutes of Ultimate Frisbee. Despite the fact that pax had just been on teams for 2 rounds, who was on what team was a matter of confusion. I’m just going to assume this was a leadership issue. Both teams scored a few times; with 1 minute left, I called ‘Next Goal Wins’. The scoring stopped immediately. As other much more official groups were beginning to come onto the field for the activities for which they had actually reserved the field, YHC decided to stop it, and again the winners were unclear. Good workout, though!
COT
With Memorial Day this weekend, I have been thinking about how we all stand on the foundation laid by those who have gone before us. Just as all of us enjoy the benefits of F3 because a foundation was laid by others, so we American citizens enjoy the privileges and freedoms our country offers us because so many before us laid that firm foundation. Indeed this weekend we remember that many, many men and women died in the laying of that foundation. Let us always be aware of the fact that every opportunity and freedom we have was given to us by those who went before us; let us also be aware of the foundation we are laying for those yet to come.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in whose hands are the living and the dead: We give thee thanks for all thy servants who have laid down their lives in the service of our country. Grant them thy mercy and the light of thy presence; and give us such a lively sense of thy righteous will, that the work which thou hast begun in them may be perfected; through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord. Amen – Book of Common Prayer, p. 488.
