SHAKESPEARE?? In the park??

Prologue

Jacksonville has long needed Shakespeare in the park. Too bad it came to this! “Oh what fools these mortals be!”

Your humble correspondent did’st hastily proclaim that a professional he was not. Pax were welcomed to the show and the curtain went up on this Tragicomedy called, “A Comedy of Bowzer’s” loosely adapted (not even close) to Bill Wigglestick’s “A Comedy of Errors”

Side Straddle Hops (jumping jacks) In cadence x 10

Reachers in cadence x 10

Little baby arm circles forward and backwards x 10 each

Speed skaters x 20 On your own.

The stage was then set for the fun and frivolity that was sure to ensure. The actors were split into unequal teams as the curtain went up for 5 acts of madness. The Bard himself was on hand to keep a watchful eye!

 

Act 1

“Exit, pursued by a bear.” – Stage direction from “A Winters Tale

While the others are bearcrawling, Pax 1 flips tire 10 times. Switch Pax and continue til time is called.

 

Act 2

“Oh its excellent to have a giant’s strength, but it’s tyrannous to use it like a giant.’ – Measure for Measure

20 Block curls

30 weighted flutterkicks

10 squat presses.

Reduce by 1 rep each round til time is called.

Act 3

“The wheel is come full circle, I am here.” – King Lear

Icoceles Triangle.

Cone 1 complete 10 burpees bear crawl to next cone.

Cone 2 complete 9 burpees, bear crawl to next cone.

Cone 3-complete 8 burpees, bear crawl to next cone. “Dost thou get the idea?”

Act 4

“And if you break the ice and do this feat, achieve the elder, set the younger free.” – The Taming of the Shrew

Bench Dips – 15 down to 1

Speed Skaters – 20 reps down to 1

Til Time.

Act 5

“Bid me run, and I will strive with things impossible.” – Julius Caesar

From Starting lamppost, runneth to far end of field. (A long way, Yes?) 3 burpees.

Run, verily, run back and complete 3 more  burpees. Complete til time is called.

Epilogue

Finish with 4 rounds of Circle Burpees.

Curtain call

Even before Shakespeare’s time, actors in the ancient Greek plays wore masks. It is often liberating wearing a mask, because the “true you” is hidden. But we all wear different masks throughout our lives. Our Husband mask, father mask, boss mask etc…..But they are all versions of our inner self. Don’t hide behind your mask!
