5 pax greeted YHC on a beautiful, humid, gloomy morning. Today is the 48th birthday of the Rubik’s cube. This fact inspired todays message to Try Hard things. Erno Rubik, a Hungarian sculptor and professor created the first “Magic Cube” in 1974. He created the cube as a way for his students to understand 3-D problems. He accidentally invented the cube by using wood, rubber bands and paper clips, painting each side different colors with 9 interlocking cubes. After twisting it around he realized it was difficult to return to the original state. It took him many weeks to solve the cube. It took him 3 years to get his “Magic Cube to market in Hungary, 3 more years later in 1980 The Ideal Toy Company distributed the cube under the new name, Rubik’s cube. The rest is history. It is considered the best selling toy of all time, 450 million sold, the world record is 5.25 seconds to solve.
