The Workout
We did a slightly modified version of the Mogadishu Mile WOD. This workout is a tribute to the UN combined forces at the Black Hawk Down Incident in the Somali Civil War in 1993. Allied/UN casualties were 18 dead US soldiers and one from Malaysia.
The raid by the US and combined forces was an effort to seize two top Somali lieutenants, but morphed into an overnight standoff, with the mission somewhat completed but at a high cost, with three Black Hawk helicopters downed, two deep in hostile territory. At the time, no battle since the Vietnam War had killed so many US troops.
So, the tribute workout was performed, somewhat as prescribed, using Cindys, Kettlebells, and Sandbags:
4 Rounds of the following, with the rep count of 19 representing the UN forces fatalities:
19 Cindy Ground-to-Overhead
19 Cindy Front Squats
19 Kettlebell Merkins (alternating, each hand = 38 total per round)
200m Cindy carry (we cut this back from 400m)
The workout required the pax to maintain 100% physical contact with their “battle buddy” (Cindy or Sandbag) for the duration of the workout. If physical contact with the implement was released, the current round would have to be started over. This emphasized the “leave no man behind” part of the battle.
With the Mogadishu Mile successfully and enthusiastically completed, we took another 200m run before the next segment of our beatdown.
For the remainder of the beatdown, the pax performed an AMRAP, as follows:
20 KB swings
20 step ups
20 BBSU
20 groiners
20 reverse lunges w/ Cindy
20 O/H Push Press
We completed about 2 rounds of the AMRAP before time was called.
COT
Announcements for the Xmas party and signing up for committees. Prayers for Trinity Rescue Mission, women and families there, for the homeless community in general, for Xenu and family, for our traveling pax Updraft, and for unspoken prayers.
It was a solid, continuous beatdown that the pax seemed to enjoy. Always an honor to lead.
