The PAX were warned ahead of time that there would be a test. The professor gave them the questions beforehand and the challenge to mentally project themselves into the future seeing this accomplishment. Working out is goal-orientated and measurable, but “working in” is usually non-measurable. Yet it creates little shifts that change everything. Grit
For those who took the practice test in 2017, they could also look back at the “you of yesterday” and ask…”Am I stronger, am I mentally tougher, am I more fit?” For those taking the test for the first time, they would need to ask themselves, “am I ready to give all I have to be able to look back and be proud of my score?” This is the Badlands Fit Test part 2. This test is not about talent but about hard work. Its about who can find it deep down inside of them to embrace the pain and keep going.
As YHC rolled into the AO, many PAX were stretching, 19 in total. YHC hums in his brain the tune from the 90’s alternative hit song, The Distance, as he approaches. “Reluctantly crouched at the starting line, Engines pumping and thumping in time, The green light flashes, the flags go up, Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup. They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank, Fuel burning fast on an empty tank”…The PAX are going the distance today.

Future Me…you knew you could do it and you did it. Now let’s go do it.” Grit is not a genetic trait. It is an acquired character trait. True grit is forged in the fires of adversity. Its challenge, friction, trials that will grow you.
Although, first and foremost, The Fit Test is a competition of You vs. You, YHC decides to create another little competition within the competition. YHC asks Outhouse to captain one team of PAX and YHC would captain the other. Count of 1’s and 2’s. Assign team names and Mosey to the pull-up bars.
It’s on! Team Grit vs. Team Grind
Rules of the competition are simple: Don’t quit, find you Why, find your pain, find your happiness, find whatever you need to find to give all you got. Whatever it takes. Remember the 20x factor. Always give 20% more than you think you can.

YHC explains I am a Christian so will share some scriptural thought on having spiritual Grit.
“The way is hard that leads to life.” (Matthew 7:14) and “By your endurance you will gain your lives.” (Luke 21:19). The Bible’s terms for grit is steadfastness and endurance. Steadfastness is the determination to remain at your post come what may. Endurance is the determination to keep moving toward your desired goal despite external challenges and internal weariness.
Have you tested yourself spiritually?
